LOS VAN VAN (timba - Cuba)
Los Van Van is Cuba's best-known orchestra. They are celebrating their 50th (!) birthday this year and are honoring their creator Juan Formell († 2014). We welcome this legendary orchestra for the second time in Hoogstraten. In 2006 their performance at our Indoor edition was interrupted early, 14 years later they are back to make it up!
JOSE ALBERTO 'EL CANARIO' & MERCADONEGRO (salsa - Dominican Republic)
José Alberto 'El Canario' (° 1958), Dominican by birth, started his career in New York in the late 1970s as lead singer with the orchestra Tipica 73. In 1999 he starred alongside Celia Cruz at the 2nd edition of the Antilliaanse Feesten Indoor. José Alberto is accompanied by Mercadonegro, without a doubt Europe's best salsa orchestra.
EDDY KENZO (afrobeat - Uganda)
"Happy music for dancing", that's how Eddy Kenzo describes his music. And let that be exactly what our audience loves! Eddy Kenzo is an African superstar from Uganda. His songs express African joy of life and pride. He is coming to Europe with his entire orchestra for the first time. Will this be the festival's surprise?
DESCEMER BUENO (salsa / latin pop - Cuba)
Descemer Bueno charmed us two years ago and is now returning! After his solo CDs from 2005 and 2012, he wrote many megahits that reached far beyond the Cuban music world. 'Bailando' (2014) is known thanks to Gente de Zona and especially the later version with Enrique Iglesias became a worldwide hit: 2.8 billion views on YouTube!
MR. BLACK & YURANIS LEON (champeta - Colombia)
After his first performance at Antilliaanse Feesten in 2014, we know for sure: champeta music is alive & kicking! Six years later Mr. Black 'El Presidente' comes back to Hoogstraten. This time he takes along his equally talented wife Yuranis Leon. So we do not serve you one, but two champeta performances!
MAURINO - future latin (the Netherlands)
Maurino Alarcón, an Amsterdammer with Chilean roots, was the front man of TenTemPiés, a latin cross-over band that toured successfully through Europe and Latin America for 11 years. In recent years he has been working on a new urban latino style, tasteful and raw at the same time. A new sound is born: MAURINO!
