Champeta is always a hit at Antilliaanse Feesten. This music style with African roots, is still popular in Colombia. Charles King is the godfather of the genre. In the '80's champeta originated with the accompanied sensual dance in the poor suburbs of Cartagena.
On 'El Palenquero Fino', from 2017 which Apple Music 'Latin Urban' highlights - we can hear a euphemism for uncut champeta, strongly influenced by soukous. The album was produced by Rey De Rocha, the most well known picotero of Cartagena. 'El Martillo' was recorded in the Bazurto Club in Cartagena and summarised everything what champeta is about: a pure lust for life! Ludwing Watts shines on the guitar and you can feel and smell the ambience in the room!
