Living salsa legend Willie Colon (º1950) is a Puerto Rican American trombone player, singer and producer. He has been very influential in the popularization of the New York salsa sound that revived the interest for Latin American music in the United States. Ever since his debut LP on his seventeenth he continued producing an album every year with star singer Hector Lavoe who died in '77 as a consequence of his fame and an overdose. Willie Colon also worked with Ruben Blades and Celia Cruz and was responsible for many recordings on producer Jerry Masucci's Fania Records label.
